Automatic Transmission Efficiency Increase?
I understand based on a ton of reading that the driveline efficiency in the JK takes about a 33% loss resulting in around 135hp to the wheels. My 2 other AWD SUVs hover around the 18-22% loss rate which further emphasizes how inefficient the JK transmission is at transfering power. Based on the differences I would like input on how we can increase the efficiency of the transmission.? (not looking for the 'Get a manual or Get a 6-speed answers)
I have seen rumblings of valve body upgrades or possibly torque converter upgrades but have yet to find a good source or reviews on either one. Does anyone have any experience with either of these on the JK?
If I understand it correctly the Flashpaq does some level of mitigating the torque management in the trans. Are there any ways to bypass the torque management software for the TCU entirely? Any way to modify when the torque converter lock-up, for instance in my diesel i could set the TC to lock up above 25mph and it made a tremendous difference in power transfer even shifting locked from 3-4th...?
I know that many people have put on auxiliary transmission coolers and while this may add to the life of the trans it does little to increase its efficiency except when the fluid is extremely hot. I already plan on doing this in the near future.
Fluid is another issue entirely. Has anyone changed transmission fluids to anything non OEM and felt it to be an improvement in power transfer, shift firmness, or fuel economy?
Anything that could help increase the efficiency will not only add 'power' as it is measured at the ground but would also increase fuel economy in the long run.
Thoughts, suggestions, and experience are welcome...!
