Default Axle nut socket size needed -35 mm or 36mm?

There have been numerous posts about the socket needed for the axle nut - the majority say a 35mm is needed but there are also quite a number of posts that claim the 36mm is needed. Is this a case that 35 mm is the correct but a 36mm will work and is more common? I would think the correct answer is important because if it is the other way round and you have a 35mm socket and it is a 36 mm nut you are out of luck. So with all that - what is the correct socket?

*should be a 35mm - in my case it’s too small for the factory axle nut.

You're in a really old thread. Both 35 and 36 are common. My Feb '07 manufactured JK has 36. There was an old post on this forum of one fellow who had 35 on one side, 36 on the other.

Thats a helpful reference as well.

Google pulls up old threads allllllll the time. This thread was one of the first results. I bought a 35mm that didn’t fit because of it. So sometimes updating old threads with relevant info is worth it.
