Default Axle question's

For the X model Jeeps, does anyone know the spline count on the front HP Dana 30 shafts?

Also.... Does anyone know for a fact if the rear Dana 44 in the X model Jeep is the same or different than the rear Dana 44 in the Rubicon?

I know there has been plenty of speculation, but has anyone tore into their axles and noted any differences?

Just wondering...

Thanks

The Rubicons have a D44 with 32 spline chromoly axles front and rear, the D30 and D44's in the Sahara and X have 30 spline axles.

Jeep JK Wrangler Axles:

* Front (X and Sahara)
o High Pinion 27 Spline Dana 30

* Rear (X and Sahara)
o Standard Cut 30 Spline Dana 44
o Standard Cut 27 Spline Dana 35 (2 Door without towing package)

* Front (Rubicon)
o High Pinion 32 Spline Dana 44
o Electric locker (open when switched off)

* Rear (Rubicon)
o Low Pinion 32 Spline Dana 44
o Electic locker (open when switched off)

This is good info. It looks like the front axle on the Rubicon has a Dana 44 center section and likely has 32 spline inner axle, but that is where the D44 ends from what I can tell. The front axle housing is puny compared to the rear housing and the outers (u-joints) look like Dana 30’s. There is no way the front knuckles are as beefy as many of the Dana 44’s I have seen on older pick-ups, etc. Therefore, what is the story on the knuckles……..are they Dana 30’s on the Rubi?

The door door X and Sahara models come with the D44 even without the tow package, as long as they have the manual tranny.

The 30 does have 32 spline outers. The inners are standard D30.

Yep. That explains my 2dr X with manual and no towing package. It has the
D44 rear.

Hey All,

I need to correct some of this info for you:

Axles are not chromo they are SAE1040/1045.

Rubicon axle shafts:

Front Reverse Cut 44 : 30 spline inners and 32 spline outers

Rear 44: 32 spline

X, Shara, Sport axle shafts:

Front Reverse Cut 30: 27 spline inners and 32 spline outers

Rear 44 : 30 spline

Any questions, let me know.

Mike
