Default Axle seals

What a pain in the ass. I should of looked before popping them out.
Dana 44 rubicon.

Here's a couple pics. First I wasn't sure how far the seal sets back into the tube?

Next.. I used a seal press. All seems well and straight going in.
After cleaning the grease off I realized both are slightly ****ed. Maybe .010-.020 if I were to venture a guess.

Anybody have experience with doing seals on a front 44 ?

Thanks in advance
Ken

When we did my D30, we used a piece of pipe large enough to fit the seal snugly, with a flat piece of metal welded to cover the hole on the other side. Remove burrs from the side on the seal. Then a long, small piece of pipe through the opposite axle tube, using a hammer to gently drive the seal into place. Two people, worked perfectly.

Thanks,
My point is, I can't see how it's possible to visually tell the seal is going in perfectly straight until it's seated all the way in.

I could not tell and was wondering if there's a smaller area of the tube where the seal can actually back up against ?
I stopped just beyond the little taper

There is on a D30--it's obvious when it's seated.

Hmm... That would be great,
The seal would eventually seat square if I push them in more.

You are fine. I did mine and measured. It was just past the taper. about 2-3mm.
They do not seat into anything. From your pics, it looks fine.

Default Axle seals

Earlier ... I tried to push one of the seals out , then set it back in straight...No luck.
The seal casing is all warped. I ordered two new seals and a Yukon install tool I saw on the forums (pic)
I'm not f***cking around with washers/sockets and shit.

Ps .. Time to put this to rest. I want to See how far a used seal will go in. If it will seat up against a lip/smaller id or just float in the tube. It's been bugging me and I'm getting different answers

Good looking tool. I'm curious, what was the original seal press you used that caused the seals to go in crooked? I'm also puzzled why you're having difficulty figuring out whether the inner shaft is smaller or not, and where the seal seats. Can't you just look at it with the seal removed?
