Default Axle Shafts

Who carries spare axle shafts with them when wheeling? I am taking the Rubi out for the first time this Sat. I carried shafts for my 04 rubi and never needed them but it was nice knowing they were there.

My problem is when on a trail here in Colorado it is not uncommon to be 20 miles from a main road. I know that I will most likley not need them but I guess it is only money.(that I have to pry out of my wifes hands).

On my last truck (Blazer truggy) I carried u-joints and front stub shafts on the truck and back at the trailer I brought along front shafts (short and long side) for my D60, rear shafts for my 14B, replacement front and rear driveshafts, and replacement tie rods and draglinks.

The more parts I broke the more parts I started carrying on the trailer. With a built 350, 44" Boggers, and a heavy foot I broke alot of parts.

For my Rubi (on 37's) as soon as they are available I will replace the front axle components with upgraded parts and carry the stock stuff as spares. I probably won't carry any rear shafts, unless I start breaking rear shafts, since its much more common to break front shafts.

Post Axle shafts

Currie Enterprises has chromoly axle shafts coming out in about a month.
They have the Rock Jock Dana 60 for the front and rear that should be available that what to step up to 60's. Here is the email I receive back from them....

WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THOSE SHAFTS AVAILABLE IN ABOUT A MONTH, AT LEAST THATS WHAT OUR FOUNDRY IS TELLING US, SO HOPEFULLY THEY DON'T LET US DOWN. JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, WE ARE ALSO WAITING FOR THE AXLES FOR OUR NEW ROCK JOCK DANA 60 MADE TO FIT THE REAR OF A JK AND RETAIN THE FACTORY JK BRAKES AND ABS. AS FOR THE FRONT WE WILL BE MAKING A ROCK JOCK DANA 60 WITH THE BIG U-JOINTS BUT NOT THE 1-TON SIZE, THE JK RUBICON SIZE, SO THE STOCK BRAKES CAN BE USED ON THAT AS WELL. ALL THIS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE REAL SOON. BUT WE ARE JUST WAITING ON THE FOUNDRY.

Thanks, I decided to buy all four factory shafts as spares, at $150.00 ea. I figured it was cheaper than a tow bill. I was also concerned with going to alloys, and breaking a locker or ring and pinion. I would like my warranty as long as possible.
