Default Axle sleeves and gussets

Please excuse my total ignorance, but what the heck are axle sleeves and gussets? I read all the tiem about having this done, but not knowing what they are I always wonder if this is something I should know about or not. Wanting to learn more about my JK I thought I would ask all of you for some help. I have a 2011 Rubicon Unlimited. Is this something I should be considering? Thanks,

they are ways to strengthen your axle and prevent it from breaking under added weight and larger tiers.... its something that couldn't hurt but i dont think its to urgent unless you go bigger then 35s i am looking into getting gussets soon to prevent my axle from bending in when i put on 35s

Here's some pictures to help you out:

C Gussets:

These strengthen the Axle Cs from bending when you go to larger oversized tires, typically 35" or larger.

Axle Sleeves:

These go inside the axle to strengthen it and prevent breakage. Both items are weld-on. If you're running a stock JK for now, not something you'd need, but if and when you decide on larger tires, it's good cheap insurance.

Thanks to everyone for the education. I am running 33's so probably nothing to concern myself about at present. I may want to go to 35's down road, but was thinking of re-gearing when I did that, and I would certainly look at this as well at that time.

When the axle is ripped apart for the gears is definitely the right time to install any strength upgrades you want. Inner sleeves, outer sleeves, gussets, truss, ca skids, hd mounts, alloy shafts, etc.

Hmm, you keep thinking that...

Here is a stock rubicon that drove onto a sidewalk ---> and shattered his housing

These stock housings have some issues, so any strength upgrades you do should be considered cheap insurance, not 'nothing to concern myself with'.
