^^^This as well. If you have pick up truck, pull the axle yourself and bring it to your welder. Much of the labor involved in welding a truss lies in the removal and reinstallation of the axle housing. Its a tedious job.

About 66% increase in strength, fwiw.

For the truss or sleeves? How much strength are we looking at for the other one?

Truss, best way to goBut take it to a welder or you ruin your housing if not done correctly

For sleeves.

I haven't taken the time to run the numbers myself, but there was someone on another forum who did. I can't remember them off hand.

Just the sleeves number stands out in my head.

When you install sleeves you are essentially increasing the wall thickness of the axle tube itself, which does have its own merit and increase strength. Adding a truss will tie the axles together with the differential housing. What this does is when strain is put on one axle tube it will distribute some of that load to the differentail housing and the other axle tube, increasing strength that way. So what we are talking about here is increasing wall thickness and making the weak point either end of either axle tube (sleeves) or tying the entire axle housing together to help distribute localized load throughout the entire axle assembly (truss). ........ what just happened I blacked out a little!

I have the d30 and was told I should gusset and sleeve, and that a truss won't do anything other than look good

Is there any truth to that? I would think not, but then again I don't know everything.

Oh, and the quote was for "4-5 hours, so probably around $400 for the install"
4-5 hours is reasonable, if you skip around and don't let areas get too hot its a time consuming process. As far as trusses not working maybe that 4x4 shop has never properly installed one.

Screw that haha. I'm no professional welder so my entire axle is coming out so I can make sure I do things right. I'm also installing the PJ backbone and I really want to take my time welding to the cast housing.

Now If I had a lift to put this thing on so I can get under my Jeep comfortably, maybe I'd attempt it with everything installed.
