Default Axle U-Joint

So I was driving my Jeep this morning in 4Wheel and when driving into my work yard and after talking to a co-worker my window was still rolled down and I turned my wheel to the passenger side and juiced the gas a little bit to spit some snow at my buddy I heard a metal on metal sound. Well I had to get into the office and take a call so I parked and left it at that this morning. about 20 mins ago I decide to go out and take a look at the front end and I realize that the U-Joint is missing a cap and is obviously broken.
I called the dealership and they told me to go ahead and keep driving the Jeep which I don't believe is a good idea. They said they do not have a spot open until the 24th so it should be fine until then.

anyhow thats not the issue, the issue is I have a lift and 35's do you think I will get no warrenty coverage on this U-Joint for that? I do have the stock wheels and tires I can put back on there for when it goes in for work. What do you guys think?

I had the same thing happen to me on my way back from jeepin, unfortunately my jeep is out of warranty due to miles but it only cost me $20 to fix and about 30 minutes. if you keep driving on it it will oblong the ears on the shafts and then you will have to get new ones, so if the dealer will get you knew shafts when this happens then go ahead and keep driving it.

I had that happen to the JK I sold a while back, and the new owner had it replaced under warranty, and i had 35"s and 4" lift, and an Aussie locker up front, and they didn't ask anything, just replaced it. So it all depends on the dealer and who you talk to.

does anyone here recommend tack welding the caps on? I know some people that do that, just wondering the pros/cons of it.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother with the dealer and putting another stock axle shaft in. If you are running 35's, you'll probably want alloy shafts in the long run anyway. (unless it is just a mall crawler )

I just went thru this today. I had the same thing where a U joint was missing a cap. I had to fight with the dealership to get it warrantied because I have 35's and go wheeling with the service manager.

I havent had a look yet but dont these caps have any sort of retaining clip?

MOWrangler: Yes sometime this year she will get alloy shafts as my Jeep sees off-road quite regularly
