A BB will not make the ride any more stiff/harsh/softer/plush/etc than your current ride quality. It will, however, affect the handling. As you lift further, your caster gets lower, which causes the handling to become worse. (flightiness, bumpsteer...) At 2.5", it is off enough that many people add control arms to fix it. It is a personal preference, and only you can decide if the handling is bad enough to warrant the expense of new arms.
