I also have the 18" spyderlocks and love them. If you follow the proper procedures you wont strip out the inserts for the allen bolts on these wheels. You MUST use a torque wrench and torque them to spec. 25ft/lbs is what is recommended. And I believe no more than 30 if 25 doesnt work for the tires being installed. If you just tighten them with a breaker bar or ratchet, they will strip. 25ft/lbs is not alot of torque. With that said. I love my spyderlocks. Yes the ring is wider, yes it will prob look like crap once those huge rings are rock rashed to hell. But thats why they are the way they are. The wider ring offers more protection than smaller rings. It is impossible to hit a valve stem or even the entire outside half of the wheel. The rings are very stout and IMHO offer more protection than any other beadlock out there. New rings can be bought if you tear them up. I'm either gonna leave mine plain aluminum, or use black duplicolor truck bed coating to paint them, since that stuff is very durable and touches up easily, and matches when dry. Good luck on your choice. Cant really go wrong with any of the wheels mentioned so far.

and, that's the reason why i went with just plain aluminum on them. from about 5 ft away, you can't really tell how rashed up they are. but, as you've pointed out, they are super thick and strong.
Thats what Im planning on doing with mine. The black powder coated wheels and silver rings looks killer. Hvaent done any rocks since I've gotten them installed so mine still look new. Im hoping for just as you said, that they dont look bad from a few feet away, even if they are torn up. You could say Im a bit OCD about how my vehicles look, lol.
If I had the $$$$.$$ I'd buy the Hutchinson Rock Monsters. Quadratec has them for $464.99 ea. True beadlocks. Street legal and D.O.T compliant. The wheels will allow you to air down to only 8 psi. They also Mfr. wheels for military applications.
I have been considering pneumatic beadlocks: either Staun or SecondAir. Seeing that these are not discussed here at all, I'm wondering has anyone here tried dhem? How do they rate in comparison with mechanical ones?
I like my Hutchinsons.

I think they're USA made because Hutchinson called after I ordered and discussed the color choice, hub diameter, etc.; said it'd take a couple of weeks for the machining and finishing. They arrived in about 3 weeks and then they called to follow up on my purchase. First class.
