Default Are Beadlocks Safe?

I'm thinking about switching to AEV Beadlock rims and was wondering if they are safe fo highway driving? I like the securiy of not rolling off a bead when airing down but do drive my JK to many off-road events and to the mountains to board (12 hour drive). What do you guys recommend?

Thanks.

Brian

Default But are they Legal on road?

I have no idea why, but I've heard more than once that beadlocks won't pass inspection in many states. Can someone confirm or correct?

Post Beadlocks

Rock Monster Wheels with the Hutchinson Beadlock's are street legal and DOT compliant but they come with a premium price. Like you may want(need) to sell an internal organ on the black market to afford them.

You need to check the laws in your state. Beadlocks are considered a multi-piece wheel, which supposedly aren't legal in some states. AEV has some good information about it on their website.

Just because they are DOT approved does not mean they are street legal. Below is a quote from a manufacture of Beadlock's.

"AEV Beadlock Wheels are DOT compliant: Doesn't that mean they are street legal?
Not necessarily. AEV wheels are designed to all applicable DOT Standards regarding wheel construction and have passed the SAE Tests for Radial Fatigue, Impact, and Cornering Fatigue. Currently, DOT or SAE has no specific regulation or test requirements for beadlock wheels."

If you get in a bad accident will the insurance company pay if you had (off road only) rims on your rig?

Another thing to consider is internal bead locks such as these:

Gonna be my suggestion as well. Should eliminate all "bead lock" concerns. Never used them myself. But, heard nothing but good about them.

WOW! Those are expensive! But a very cool solution.
