Default Best Air - Your Thoughts?

I have about $3-400 to spend on a compressor. Main use will be for airing up after trails. Speed will be a high priority for me. What are your experiences regarding on board vs. portable and brand/models to choose and which to avoid. Thanks

For that you could get a Viair with tank. Personally I'm running an ARB, but keep thinking about installing an air tank. While both ARB and Viair are quality brands, an air tank in the system would be worthwhile to consider.

twotrackmindsoffroad.com makes a neat bracket that holds it between the brake master cylinder and engine. I have one for my ARB. It's a great use of that little bit of unused space under the hood.

Default Powertank

Have you thought about a portable system like Powertank or The Source. Both are CO2 systems and seem to work great for everything from airing up on a trail or using powertools. Others on here run them. I am sure they could chime in. I know that I have used a buddy's Powertank on the trail and was very impressed.

Personally, I think any compressor takes a dog year to put 15 lbs. back in 4 35" tires!

If you're concerned about speed, you're definitely going to want a 2.5 gallon tank at least. A guy I wheel just uses his old AC compressor hooked up to a tank in the back with a fitting in the rear bumper. Doesn't take him very long at all to air up. Unfortunately I don't want to sacrifice my AC compressor or figure out how to mount another one!

Took me a while to find a decent compressor to store in the trunk (I didnt want an air tank) and finally bought this one from 4WD for $169 http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=14194

I'm amazed how small and poor the flow rate is on many more expensive on-board air systems. I've not yet aired down completely to time this compressor, but it does belt out a stronger flow than others ive seen.

From website : "The Dually Twin Cylinder Portable Air Compressor will fill a 35 tire from 10 PSI to 35 PSI in approximately 2-1/2 minutes! Includes a 10 foot power cord with battery clamps, a quick release 24 foot coiled hose with a gauge attached, and dual air filters. Chrome plated construction."

I was going to suggest a Warn PowerPlant, but I see in your profile you already have a Warn 8000 mounted. The PowerPlant airs up my 35s from 15 PSI to 35 PSI in about 8 minutes. Maybe their portables are that good too?
