From what I understand the performance of the stock headers is actually the best when compared on a dyno with all the aftermarket versions. I can't tell you about sound changes, but I would say save your money for something else (like an MBRP catback) that is dyno proven to give you 9 HP and 12 - 15 lb-ft of torque in the usable range. Plus the cat-back will give you the biggest change in sound if that's what your after.
Hope this helps!

Performance wise I don't believe they are worth the money. If you do travel this route it's best to have a programmer as well. The Hypertech did not like them at all and the SC Flashpaq did a much better job. A third party coating be it Cermakrome, Black Satin or other type of heat barrier coating is advised. It will help you avoid the melted plug wires that others have reported and also keep heat out of the engine compartment.
In hindsight if I could have just had the stock exhaust manifold coated and lost use of the JK for that period of time I could have saved some dough and headaches. Unfortunately there just wasn't that much information available when I made the purchase.
As for sound differences, hard for me to say as I did the rest of the exhaust at the same time.

The Borla long tubes still have the bungs for the O2 sensors. What you need is some sort of controller to adjust your A/F ratios as they are in part controlled by tables, not just a closed loop of the sensors.
Someone said they can do it, but I haven't seen anyone post they have had success or for that matter post that they've bought the borla long tubes.

I've always heard that to get the full potential out of your exhaust then you need to get the full potential out of your intake....so just swapping headers will almost never gain you much of anything...but they compliment a modded intake/exhaust setup
And for proven HP....there were threads years ago where simply cutting out the old muffler in the rear and installing a 'Magnaflow' somewhere under the driver made about 9RWHP...and it costs about $60 total
And yes I've done this mod and I recommend it to all
