Best synthetic winch rope
Dyneema is made in many different grades. For instance SK25 (still Dyneema) is about half as strong as SK75. SK75 is what you want and the description doesn't say SK75. They don't give a breaking strength and the thimbles are junk.
Any thoughts on this line? It's 1/2" (kinda thick) and made of Dyneema, and at a pretty good price??? Would that thickness at 92' even fit on a standard winch?

So I know, you get what you pay for, but... I dont have a ton to spend on this line, and really want to go synthetic, as my cable line is pretty shot. I may use the winch 2 or 3 times a year. what's my best option? Possible to get one for around 200? Or am I just dreaming...
Done deal - I sell a 75' 3/8" Technora winch rope for $200 plus $20 shipping. And that's with a killer link hook. That's the forum members price and you have to have the link. I'll PM the link over to you.

What is the Life expectancy of a Synthetic winch line (rope) ? Also, how do I determine the required size (diameter) of the new line when I change over to the new Synthetic line? Lastly, do the different Colors represent anything? Strength-Quality-Size, or is it just a preference? I admit I know nothing about the Synthetic line except from what I read here, so thanks for your time.
For the most part, 3/8" rope has a breaking strength of 18,000 lbs. Keep in mind breaking strength is not working load and working load limits are different for different rope applications. For JK's an 18,000 rope has become the standard, though there are certainly situations that 18,000 lbs is not strong enough. Load calculations for vehicle recover are a much longer story and you wouldn't believe how sophisticated it gets.
I've seen synthetic ropes last for many years (One of mine has made it through to Hammers races and an entire year's worth of racing) and I've seen them last five minutes. It's all about how you use them. They do not like chafing and as a general rule, I try to have my winch rope pull directly out of the fairlead and never touch anything. I've been running my current winch rope for several years.
Colors are decorative, though I sell a lot of Orange rope for visibility. The colors are not the actual color of the rope, but are part of the urethane coating that is applied to help with chafing and UV protection.

Apples and Oranges. Viking uses SK75 Dyneema and is properly spliced.
I offer Technora. Before I offered winch rope, I did a fairly thorough analysis and determined that Technora is best for what we do.
Here's a link to the analysis: LINK
I also offer discounted forum member pricing. I'll PM the link to you.
