Default Bestop Header Tape?

So I went with a Supertop NX in the twill and ended up getting a replacement deck from Morris 4x4 because my drivers side zipper was sewn incorrectly. Anyway, after changing it out everything fits tight and it seems good. I didn't receive any new tape to place on the header. I'm talking about the foam tape that covers the screws. I covered the screws with some good quality foam I had laying around, but the small pieces that are supposed to go near the corners on the fabric are absent. Question is, are they really necessary? I really can't see the purpose of them. Anyone running a soft top without that foam? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the foam, but I have the twill top (the "factory" version, clearly the bestop supertop nx twill) as well. I love the material. How do you think it compares to regular sailcloth ? I've thought about going to trektop nx because I love the style, but I don't wanna sacrifice the high quality material (I've never had a regular sailcloth top).

I honestly have never had the sailcloth, but I am "fairly" satisfied with the NX twill. I have had a few issues but the service after the sale has been good from Morris 4x4 and Bestop. I have heard the Mopar top is better quality, but I don't know for a fact. Maybe they have the new people sew the Bestop tops and the vets work on the Mopars. I would like to check out the premium top and may stop by the dealer to do so. If I had to do it all over again I would probably buy the OEM top over the Bestop even though it is more money. I really wonder if their quality has gone down over the last couple of years because I see more and more negative posts.

Hmm, it wouldn't surprise me. It could also be that people have higher expectations. Who knows?

Let me know how it goes. this makes me more inclined to keep my factory top. until it has serious issues (if ever)

Hey guys so the reasoning behind the foam is to prevent the top from whistling at higher speeds, I keep the foam in case on my Twill Supertop NX but never needed it on my Trektop NX so that's what that is for. As for the material difference the Twill top is a 3 layer fabrics that is thicker than the sails cloth, it has a finished inside so it looks/feels amazing and the twill is very high end, it feels soft, has more stitching, is quick dry, and has a true deep black appearance. I hopes this helps guys! If you have any questions just ask.

If you call BesTop and tell them what happened I bet they'd send you the foam pieces you need for free. Their customer service is still top notch!

Yeah I got some header tape, as well as all of my issues worked out. I am someone who expects a reasonable amount of quality for sure. Everything seems to be worked out now. I am definitely tolerant of mistakes and not unreasonable. I had a new deck sent to me, a new drivers side window, a new back window, and 4 rear bows (one was for a TJ). Three weeks later and some phone calls, it fits great. Every rear bow they sent me was either scratched to hell. or machined incorrectly so I finally just put new snaps and repainted the one that fit the best.

I've been considering this top for awhile, nothing wrong with my top but I like the look, feel, and quality of the new top. I also want the improvement in sound isolation. But mostly, it's like any other mod, anywhere you think you can make an improvement and that itch gets the better of you.

I REALLY like the OEM version of this top, however I find it to be harder to clean than the sailcloth.. on the sailcloth tops simple green and a brush and the hose, my top looked like new.. I had some berries from a tree get on my new 13'' and I got it clean but was tougher to do.. I used convertible top cleaner on it.. a light brush and the hose and it all came off but not as easy as the sailcloth...

my header tape ripped the first time I put the top down on the new jeep.. the header wouldnt open so i gave it a shove.. im guessing something wasnt put together quite right at the factory.. quick dealer visit fixed the issue...
