Wait.....I thought 285s WERE 33" tires? Was I wrong to assume that? The 285s are larger in diameter than the stock rubi tires, and the 265s are smaller in diameter, correct? So which is a better fit for a stock rubi? I don't want to go to a smaller tire, or loose ground clearance.

How much power and MPG will I loose going from stock Rubi KMs to 285s? Will I gain power and MPG if I instead go to 265s?

Will I gain ground clearance going with a 285, and loose it if I go with a 265 instead? Thanks!!

If you fill in the variables, in the formula, at this link, it will answer some of your questions: (such as clearance affect- it will compute overall diameter) http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

295 is about 33.2 tall tire 11.8" wide
285 is about 32.8 tall tire 11.2" wide.
265 is about 31.8 tall tire 10.5" wide.

You won't lose much power or MPG by sticking with 33's. You may gain MPG if the tires are lighter than the stock rubi tires.

With 33x12.5R17 Cooper STT's I lost about 1/2MPG due to extra weight of the tires over stock.

If you are not planning on any lift...go with the 285's very close to stock height but about 1" wider tire.

I believe 10.5" wide...but someone with the Rubi wheels and BFG KM tires could chime in.

They're 255mm wide, that's about 10" or so. Closer to 10 than 10.5 anyway.

For metric sizes, don't assume the higher number = taller/wider. It's all about some ratio of width to height to rim size - not straighforward like the flotation tire sizes. Always use a metric tire size calculator - a quick search online will bring up many to choose from. (There is also a slight difference between various calculators and manufacturers listed specs...)

an example:
295/75/16 33.4 x 11.6 (what I have, actually measure out at 32" even)
295/75/17 34.4 x 11.6
305/70/16 32.8 x 12
305/70/17 33.8 x 12
325/65/18 34.6 x 12.8
325/60/18 33.4 x 12.8

How wide are the stock jk rubicon tires?
255/75/17 = 32.1 x 10 with calculator
255/75/17 = 32.05 x 10.04 from BFG

And then there is the whole rim width affecting overall tire height discussion...
