Blown motor 42,000
Seems like it should still be under warranty. If not, then grey smoke doesn't suggest a blown head gasket, usually that is more white. Start with the easiest/cheapest things first. Does it have a trouble code? If so, what is it? Does the oil smell burned on the dipstick? Pull the spark plugs, what do the electrodes look like? The troubling part is the metal you are seeing on the dipstick. Change the oil and note how much metal you see in the oilpan. Does the oil smell burned? I would do a compression check of each cylinder. Check for cracks on the head and the engine block itself. Put something light colored under the engine overnight and check for leaks. Problem is I don't know what your capabilities are, what tools you have, engine knowledge, etc. These are just some of the starting points.

i dont recall seeing what interval the oil was changed....otherwise look for a rockershaft on the pass side.......
but of course jk owners take care of their vehicles......visit the dealer you've been loyal to & they will take care of you........if they don't call chrysler
Metal in the oil pan and your upgrades are going to make it pretty tough to get the dealer to step up on this one. The red flag as I see it is the custom dual exhaust. Too big and it can lead to carbon build up on exhaust valves, clogged EGR and other issues. If the cats were removed, even more potential issues and a tuner that was not designed to work with the exhaust as situated.
If you could provide some details on your exhaust, that would be helpful. If as I suspect your exhaust has been modified you're probably not going to have a lot of luck at the dealer and should just begin your quest for a used motor. If it's somewhat in line with proper cylinder evacuation and exhaust velocity, you might still have a shot.
