Default BOBBLING from the TAILGATE

I have 33x12.50 A/T tires on 15" steel rims with 3.75" backspacing. I have the Daystar Extended Bumstops on my tailgate to help compensate my spare tire's distance from the tailgate because of the amount of backspacing from my wheel. I also have MBRP tailgate reinforcing brackets. For quite some time the reinforcing brackets did eliminate the bobbling, and now all the sudden the bobbling is back -- I can actually see my tire wobble when looking in my rear view mirror.

Question:
1) Any idea why my tailgate is bobbling?
2) Any solution(s) to this bobbling problem?

Thanks!

sounds like you're weakening your tailgate or at least the spare tire mount. I was noticing this with my 33 on the back and quickly switched to a carrier and now the problem is gone. I think of the reinforcing bracket as more of a temporary fix.

my plastic tire holder was cracked at the bottom by the part that bolts to the tailgate. Made my tire move all over the place up and down.
Take your tire off and check for cracks

I do have cracks at the bottom of my tire carrier. Could that really be a cause of the bobbling? Because the bobbling sounds like sheet metal. I tried to stay cheap, but I suppose I have no choice but to pull the trigger for a stronger carrier; perhaps the Or Fab.

Well look at it this way, now you have an excuse to tell the old lady that now you have to get a spare tire carrier Yeah my least favorite part about the JK is the ridiculously thin sheet metal on the exterior panels. Good luck

Any way to get some support from the bumper? I used a wheel spacer for my 35 and extended bumps. My rear tire presses against the stock bumper and bumps, no issues with my gate for over a year with a 90lb 35"

Yes the cracks give the tire movement then it ripples your tailgate, take it off before you get a tailgate wrinkle by the hinges.
Check out my wrinkles
