As far as power goes...the Borla gave bottom end power...and a lot of it. The CAI gave top end power....the two of them together allowed me to be cruising at 65, give a little gas & speed up to 75 or 80 without downshifting...I coulnd't do that before without downshifting 2 gears & tach'ing at 5+ grand...

Sixgunz, looks good, where did you get your borla from? Was going to go with the gibson dual set up but after reading the low end tourqe/backpressure issues I think I'll go with the axle back borla set up. I have ran borla on almost all my past vehichles as well as alway impressed with quality and sound.

I bought mine from Quadratec. They have plenty of the 2-dr version in stock right now. You can call them and they will tell you if they have any for the 4dr.

I bought it from Net Parts Express, who is an E-bay dealer.

stores.ebay.com/Net-Parts-Express

I paid $449 for it, delivered to my door.

Default Gibson exhaust - single pipe

I just installed the single piped Gibson (not the dual system many people have complained about) and here are my thoughts.
It's loud
it does help torque in the low-mid RPMs
It's sound is exactly the same tone as the bass line in the Black Eyed Peas "Pump It".
It does give up a little HP in the upper RPMs
Oh yeah and it's loud.
How loud you ask? Well to put it into something all JK owners can experience: You've got to turn your stock 6-disc changer up to 1/2 way before you 'loose' it to the traffic and wind with the top down.
The Gibson chrome tip is a little showy, and sits close to the stock plastic bumper.

Forget about ever sneaking it anywhere again. It's half as loud as the 'fartin' mufflers on the tweaked import Ricers

Am I unhappy with it? No, I'm just not 100% happy about the noise.
I give wifey approx 3 seconds to say 'what the |-| e || is that noise?

I will post any MPG improvements over in that other thread at a later date.

With my previous, a '95 Ram w/ 5.9L 360, I started with a Gibson I installed my self - piece of shit. Moved on to a nice Edelbrock (Edelbrock shocks too) helluva improvement. Before that was Dynomax (on my Hyundai Elantra) and now is Magnaflow (on my Hyundai Santa Fe). Gibson is the only one I have ever regretted. Looking at going with Banks next on the JK. Everybody seems to complain about drone with Flowmaster. Borla is great, just too pricey.

i have the gibson dual exhaust and it is a piece of shit.

mpg went down about 1.5 -

low end torque went down -

i am in talks with Gibson, but the have not done anything but give me lip service for the past 3 months -

they told me they did not test their mufflers on a dyno - so they finally tested the dual 3 weeks ago - they emailed me and told me that it gained 4.5 HP at 4400 RPM's -

uhhh, the jeep redlines at 5500!!! - not good - they were also scratching their heads -

also all the Gibson ads say 15-20 HP Gains!

NOT!

they still claim thay are trying to fix the problem, but as of now, I have a piece of crap $400.00 paperweight - Oh, and a very noisy paperweight at that -

I just installed the Borla on my Unlimited X - as Sixgunz said, its a very easy install. I love it. I don't know exactly what HP gains there are but I noticed a better response on acceleration right away.

I called Borla prior to purchase (they are just miles away from me) and spoke to one of their techs. He said the only reason you would need to buy the entire cat back system for the JK is if you have damage to repair, encounter a lot of water, specifically salt water or salt on the roads in winter. Since the factory exhaust is 2.5 inches, there's no real advantage to buying the full system on the JK.

I ordered mind from the same guy on Ebay, he's not a sponsor but he was the cheapest I found. $449 delivered.

After the install, I was a little disappointed with the sound - very import sounding but I had not installed the Airaid CAI yet. Once the Airaid went in, the sound was improved and exactly what I was hoping for. Very quiet at start up, low rumble but loud on acceleration. Very nice!

I'll try to post some sound clips later today....

Meanwhile, search for sound clips and you'll have your answer. Gibsons sound weak to me - like an import tuner. Magnaflow sounds best on V8's and Borla has a million mile warranty on top of decent sound. Plus, its the same thing that's on the big brown truck that brought my Borla to me... I love that sound!

Yeah, as stated before, the dual exit from Gibson is a POS. The design is average and you will experience a drop in MPG and power. To all of you who haven't installed it yet, DO NOT GO FORWARD WITH THE INSTALLATION. You will regret it down the line. I think we should ask Gibson for some kind of compensation due to the fact that the performance gains advertised are false and misleading (4.5 HP vs. advertised and untested 15-20 HP).
