I could tell a huge difference in ride quality when I went from the rubi shocks to the Fox tuned shocks. Well worth the money ...

I am in the same situation, although I have had my lift for a while. My factory shocks leave a lot to be desired and need to be replace. I can't afford the Fox shocks, and as one of the above posters noted, they are really meant for FAST offroading, which I will never do, so it is hard to justify.

In the run for me are the Bilstiens, OMU's and Rancho adjustable's. I have had the Rancho's before, but they were on pick ups and LOVED them. Does anyone run them on a JK that can comment on them? Sorry if I am off topic a bit......

I've been thinking of replacing my shocks also. Have the rubi shocks that seem to still work fine with the stock mud terrains but when I switch to my daily drivers (hankook at's, 10ply) which are 25 lbs more per tire, I really notice the difference on rough roads. It feels like the axles can't move quick enough because of the extra weight and continue to bounce after the bump.

Just picked up a set of pro comp es9000 shocks from 4 wheel parts last week. They were buy three get the fourth free, walked with a whole set for 130. If they just make it through the winter ill be psyched.

Ride so far is really nice. I also switched the bushings over to poly on a side note, only ten bucks extra. Took some bench vise work and patience to get them swapped out.

Default Fast offroading

I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but here in the NW, we have about 3 miles of rough wash boarded fire roads for every one mile of trail.
I don't do "fast offroading" but I do run 20mph on the way there and the mono tube shocks leave A LOT to be desired. Anything over 14psi on my tires and the rubi skips across the road because the shocks are too busy foaming to be much good doing their job.
Personally, I wouldn't use the Baja 1000 as your criteria for remote res shocks yes or no. Get the best you can afford and love it.
