Break in for new gearing?
I have not had my jeep re-geared yet. I have done several muscle cars. The break-in is always the same. Just as Wayoflife has stated. 15-20 miles, let it cool. 500 or so easy miles after. Change the fluid, then drive it as you like.

I've recently regeared. Following wol's break in process... Although I am a bit over 500 miles and about to change my fluid. I'm all for playing it safe and following this procedure... Can't hurt, but my question is this... How is it any different from buying a new car? You never change the diff fluid on a new car after 500 miles??
20 miles-change fluids
500 miles- change fluids again
During this time drive at different speeds and try not to go above 55mph. Also DO NOT just jump on the highway and do a couple hundred miles quickly. Vary the type of driving and speeds and the gears will be happy as a bug in a rug

So what are the thoughts of running royal purple at the gear change? Waste of money since your changing the oil 500 miles later? I was gonna do royal purple but now I'm not sure if I should run a more conventional gear oil at first then after 500 miles switch to royal purple?

How long does it take to COOL down????
About an 1/2 hour to an hour or so is plenty of time after the first 20 min.

Its more of a post break-in inspection/ piece of mind than any thing else.

I have always been told conventional for break-in, synthetic is ok after break-in.

I drove mine like I stole it after a gear change. I figured new cars didn't need it so ......someone on here tried to tell me new vehicle gears were all pre treated some kind of way. Kinda find that hard to believe, but I dunno . So far , 50k on my 5.13's and no prob. I should say when I first got them I drove 75-80 mph on 50mile trips the first 2 days I had them, no problems.
I put 80-90 the cheap stuff for the break in I get my jeep back tonight so excited like others have said the guy installing said 2 to 3 trips 20-30 min for each trip and let it completely cool down (my installer said a couple of hrs) b4 going again then after that starts the 500 miles for easyish driving and then after that change the diff fluid, then all hell breaks loose lol I'm still just excited about going from 3.21 to 4.88 sorry to rant
