It was a 44 and still not sure what caused it. I went out wheeling, nothing extreme, just following some two tracks playing in the new snow. Hit the hyw headed to the house and the traction control kept kicking in. Roads were iced up pretty good, running about 60 and all hell broke loose. it took me off the road down in the ditch and I finally got it stopped inches from the fence. Axle broke clean in half, about half way between the pumpkin and the outer end. My blood pressure is still on the high side.

What are the details - JKU, tire size, year, is the axle sleeved (clearly not trussed)?

Looks like the break is at the usual spot, passenger side control arm mounts? Which would mean no sleeves.

JKUR 2014 stock axle with 35"s Metal Cloak 3.5 All the control arms look ok Peeled all the inner sidewall of the passenger tire off, wiped out the steering stabilizer and obviously destroyed the axle No sleeves or anything

Wow man glad you are ok. Seems like a freak accident, but goes to show that the factory axles aren't up to the task of anything much bigger than stock tires without beefing them up.
