that's because D30s are so much stronger than D44s
...actually my buddy rockcrawls pretty hardcore and ran a built D30 with custom trusses, axle shafts, yada yada on his, worked for a good while but he upgraded to a D44 f/r, as for a built D30 being stronger than a stock D44 I've "heard" that but yet to see any real proof (other than people saying "really it is"). I'm sure it has and can be done but for the cost might as well upgrade to something you can upgrade even more down the road.
Just get a D44 and you can always upgrade it to be as strong as a D60 ....j/k...but possible

Ok well here is your proof:
Dana 30 and Dana 44 have the same tube thickness and same outers as.
Dana 30 and Dana 44 have the same brackets
Dana 44 has a 8.50" ring gear
Dana 30 has a 7.20" ring gear
Stock Rubicon Locker is Prone to breakage
ARB IMHO is the stongest locker on the market
Stock shafts are prone to "wollow" out the ears and loosing a u-joint.
Alloy USA shafts USE full circle clips and made from 4340 Chromoly. Dont have strength figures but I would say 30-50% stronger.
So if you build your D30 up everyhting will be the same or stronger except the ring gear. And very few people break ring and pinions. maybe 1 or 2 a year out of 1000's of ring and pinions that we sell.
If you have a rubicon the 44 is great, The debate here is if you have a X or sahara is it worth buying a dana 44 over building your 30.
Hope that Helps
David

I never said the D30 was stronger...just that it would WORK.

You should consider our Rock Jock 60 with the factory outters. It comes with 3.0" tubes, re-inforced inner "c's", HD 4130 tie rod, Alloy large inner and outter shafts, Johnny Joints on both upper mounts, HD 3/16" thick brackets, Mopar u-joints and HD 3/8" thick cover. Equipped with ARB and gears, you are looking at 4,360.00. Core charge for inner "c's".
When comparing to Mopar 44 with Alloy shafts, ARB, gears and bearings the total comes up to 3,425.00 + installation of gears. The major down side of this setup is the 2.5" axle housing and tubes that bend fairlly easy.
