I removed my old bumper, cut down the steel on the original keeping the crush cans and builing off that, the face of the new bumper will sit on the face of the crush cans, by the way, Right now I have just the steel bumper on it now with the cans , everyone who sees it thinks that cool, in my opinion anything is better that plastic mustache stock thing.

Ther crush cans are on the bumper, not the frame, once the bumper is removed, no more crush cans. The plastic front bumper is just a cover like what's typically on other vehicles nowdays. The actual front bumper is the piece in the pic above (the crush cans are part of it). Check my gallery, the two "boxes" on the Mopar bumper on my Jeep have the crush cans under them and thay are part of the Mopar bumper. The AEV bumper uses crush cans also. If you use any other aftermarket bumper besides the Mopar or AEV, you will not have the crush cans anymore (not that you need them anyway, just there for Federal regs) as no aftermarket (besides AEV) decided to use them.

I am going to try to build a stubby, somewhat like shockworks. Doing my drawings, figuring in my head. Wont start for a few weeks. A lot of older jeep guys build bumpers, no reason why JK guys cant. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

Does anyone have a picture of the steel bumper before it was cut down to be a stubby? I have some ideas, but I need a picture of the steel with just the plastic removed. (I can't look at mine because I'm layed up right now)
