busted coil spring
Hello all. First of all, thanks so much to you all, as I've learned tremendously from this forum in the last few months. OK, so GF discovers a busted right rear coil spring on her first jeep, a 2011 w/ dealer installed Mopar 2" lift. And upon further inspection see that the left one is unseated and flexed over like a slinky. We dropped it off at the dealership after hours on Friday nite. Sat they call and ask the GF what she did to it! Went back to dealership to get pictures, but they had already removed broken coil and re-set the left one.
My question is similar... what exactly could she have done to cause this? She has not yet had this vehicle off road, it is her daily driver. My suspicion is that when she had it in for servicing a week ago, the springs became unseated on the lift.
I will have to go in with her to DS on Monday to deal with this. Please advise as to what we should be concerned about... such as, if it was driven for a week with the ass end hanging low, what sort of excessive wear was likely caused to other parts from it being off-center, not only vertically but horizontally as well?
Thanks in advance for any help, and GO PACK!

You should be fine as far as any damage/wearing occurring after only a week. Sounds to me the springs weren't seated when the jeep came down from the lift last time. Which means your shocks are too long, so either get rear spring retainers or straps or shorter shocks. My advice, call david at northridge and he'll tell you want to get.
Heresy! Dealership mechanics don't make mistakes!
That would be my guess as well. Look at some coil retainers or limiting straps if it keeps happening.

Thanks guys. Yes, David is the man... my girl got lots of x-mas gifts sent from WA yet to be installed. But got the lift at the DS because we could put it on the sales contract and finance, etc.
I've seen some other posts regarding unseated springs but never a broken one...

Hey WOL! I'm not worthy! Yes, the right rear was broken into 2 pieces, which is why I wanted to get photos, because I figured this very rarely happens esp on a new vehicle. If nothing else it might make for an entertaining "What was done to your JK this week" post. The left rear was just (very) unseated. Yes, I assume the bump stop extensions included in the Mopar kit were installed, but now you have me second guessing. I have been looking up pictures, videos, installation intructions, to try to figure out how this could have happened... it's hard to visualize without the jeep in my garage.
Thanks for any thoughts you might have...

I would be concerned as well, as it takes a considerable effort to break a coil spring into two pieces. The fact that they were unseated can be explained by the installer not taking the time to assure he had done everything correctly, but just driving it as a daily driver on paved roads for one week does not explain the broken coil spring. I think I would be asking the dealer for some answers.

Sounds like you better check thier work.
Make sure all the shock bushings are in place and every nut and bolt they touched is tight but not over torqued.
Lug nuts too.
Common for those guys to use 200 ft/lbs or more to break lug nuts loose then forget to lower the gun for re-install.
