Whichever direction you go, definitely get the Mopar tailgate bar. It works best. Add for the original trek top, I had one for about 5 months. About 1.5 before a hail storm put a nice hole in the passenger side rear window of it. I prefer the NX because it's much easier to work with and the removable Windows are a great feature. During the summer months, I usually just leave them off. Only downside to the NX I'd that if you want to run completely topless, you needed to leave it at home because with the attached header bar and rails for the sunrider feature, it's really big and cumbersome and doesn't fit well in the cargo area. Still though, after running mine for about a year, I sold my hard top because I never found a reason to put it back on.

So if I want to go topless I would have to take the top completely off? How long does that take? Could I store it in the rear cargo area?

I live near Chicago, the weather fluctuates like crazy. It would be nice to be able to travel with it and have it take up minimal space.

With the original TT, yeah, you can take it off and store the entire thing in the cargo area because it's all just fabric. Takes about 10 minutes to install if you've done it a few times, maybe even a little less. You can install everything, including the door surrounds in less than thirty minutes. IMHO, though, it just doesn't fit quite as nicely as the TT NX. Header bad works much better on the NX, removable window panels are definitely nice, and no Velcro straps, etc. to fool with, either. Door surrounds with the NX are very similar to the factory ones.

After having the NX, I rarely took the entire top off because you can flip it back into the sunrider open top position, then take off all the windows, ur basically topless and can store windows inside the jeep. The only part covered was above rear part of passengers. Still partially open above rear passengers tho.
I'll second what someone else said about the original screw header bolts. They suck, mine also became stripped and difficult to line up and tighten. You wil have regrets with the og trektop but not the NX. Trust us
