C Gussets
Hi all, I have looked at thread over thread about the need for c gussets. But for some strange reason I still need to hear it one more time. I have an 08 with a d 30 under it setting on 35s and I don't see me getting a pro rock 44 any time soon. I do mild trail riding and playing in the mud but no big rocks if I can help it. So what I want to know is can I get by with out anything and if not can I just get by with the gussets. I know what the answer is but I need someone to beat into my head. Thanks for any info

at bare minimum, YOU WILL NEED GUSSETS
if you don't want to have bent axle c's YOU WILL NEED GUSSETS
did that help?
And a little persuasion for a set of sleeves. This is a stock d30 on 32's that drove up onto a curb at 20mph. I mean, seriously - a curb???

I think what Wayoflife is saying is:
Buy the damned gussets Nancy!!!
I went to a very reputable Jeep only mechanic when I was considering 35's. He told me that he has seen people running 35's & 37's open up their "c's" simply by hitting a pothole on their way to work.
Others will tell you that they have done all kinds of off-roading with 40 inch tires & a stock Dana 30 with no problems.
Chrysler designed the Dana 30 to be strong enough for "Normal" every day wear & tear on and off the road with stock equipment.
When you add larger tires, you not only add more weight & width, which will spread C's, but you add circumference, which increases leverage. Couple that with more aggressive, aired down tires, increased traction & disconnected sway bars, now you got major grip, major leverage. The weak link is going to break or in this case bend.
I think half of the guys sporting huge tires that haven't done the tubes & C's that are braggin about their Dana 30's are driving on bent stuff.
I can only say that looking at my little Dana 30 after I got done welding in the Evo tubes & C gussets I was very impressed. It is now much much stronger. And I sleep better at night, still don't go where Wayoflife goes, but I sleep better!!!
You asked for a beating....

Last summer I pull the front installed EVO CA skids, sleeves, gussets, Solid diff cover, and new SS setup. I have to agree, 07X, that work made it extremely pretty!!!! No where close to a 60 but, hell-of-a-lot better.
OP....DO THE GUSSETS MINMUM.
I did the Teraflex gussets and sleeves. Together, the price was about $110 total give or take. There are other more expensive ones like the EVO's that are very nice but they can cost as much as the sleeves to from teraflex. At the end of the day, its your money and you should but what makes you feel comfortable and secure.
As far as installation, mine were done along with my gears so I don't know the actual cost, especially since my installer grossly underestimated the time needed to do them!. But I think the gussets alone would take about 2+ hours to do it right. The slevves a bit longer as they has to be welded in as well and you axle has to be taken apart.
However, it is totoally worth it to have this done, otherwise, a few hundred dollars turns into several thousand WHEN youbreak something. This won't gurantee that you won't break but it is a good level of insurance to reduce the possibility.
