Default C2 Gussets...do I need them? Some help please...

Ok I have a 2door with D44's. I run 37's and don't wheel to the point where I beat the crap out of the Jeep but I do rock crawl.

Do I need C2 Gussets?

If so what kind would you suggest? (EVO?)

Thanks in advance!

C2 gussetts are fairly cheap insurance to help prevent the C's from bending under the extra load of larger tires. There have a lot people bending them. It's a lot cheaper to have them welded on then to have your axle replaced...

I echo what's already been said. I believe there are anecdotal examples of people bending their end forgings DRIVING ON THE STREET.

You absolutely need gussets with tires that big and heavy. I like my EVOs, FWIW.

Need? No.

Should have? Yes.

And with 37" Krawlers? Hell yes.

I got mine because they are great piece of mind. The EVO gussets are definitely overkill but when it comes to axle parts, I have learned over the years to build it to be about twice as heavy duty as you think you will ever need. I ran without the gussets for over a year and wheeled with stock wheels and tires for 1.5 years and 1 year with the 35s and 4" lift and didn't bend the C's. And I wheel it pretty good, granted I wasn't bouncing off of rocks or desert racing, but I've wheeled enough hard terrain to know how to treat the D30. I was lucky. A buddy of mine running 35s bent one of his upper C's within a month of putting on his lift. It was a PITA to fix. And he now has gussets on his repaired C.

And as far as my comment to build it twice as heavy duty as you will need, my next stage of my build includes a ProRock 44. Maybe Dana 60s F & R depending on how adventurous I get and my local shop guy gets. He is pretty confident about using junkyard 60s, from an old F350 from the 70s I think. Not sure how adventurous I am going to be though...definitely leaning toward the PR 44 as long as my JK is my DD.

I am still running 255 75r 17 tires and had my front d30 sleeved and gussetted.
