Calling all regeared '12 JKs!! Need help please!
At this point, I'm flip-flopping back and forth between 5.13s and 4.88s. I wish I could just freaking drive one so I could make up my mind! haha.. I may go back and look at that gearing chart to see where the RPMs fall for the 4.88 gears, compared to mine now. In the end, it needs to be streetable as a DD, with the versatility of being able to tackle some road trips in addition to being able to turn these big meats with some power on the trail.
I'm in the San Fernando valley. I have a 2012 2 door auto with 37's and 4.88's. if you are down to drive out here ill take you for a ride.....but no one drives my shit
4.88 if you drive a lot of highway, 5.13 if mostly street and aren't too worried about the smaller teeth and pinion gear. I'm happy with 4.88 but still feel like I could use another 100-200hp

I'm never going bigger than 38s (I say that now), so maybe 4.88s are the better option. Little bigger teeth, a little more street worthy, and gives me the option to go comfortably down to 37s without making me want to regear again. I may have just made up my mind.
I think 4.88s are your friend based on what you are looking for.
Will you occasionally downshift to 5th...yes....but isn't the R&P significantly smaller once you move to 5.13s? Wouldn't want that to be my fuse in the mix.

Randy's ring and pinion will tell you what need to get back to stock rpm, 4:53s is more then enough..especially since the gears and teeth get weaker as you get lower. I would really just look at Randy's ring and pinion and it will tell you everything you need.
I have heard plenty of people saying they are fine with 3.21's and 35's or 4.10's with 37's. Friend has the 37's and 4.10's with his Automatic, but there has been a few times he's going up logging roads and he'll have to put it in 4 low due to the tranny overheating. You can look at the gear charts here on JK-Forum and your running 32's now this puts you at 2403rpms @ 70mph, with 4.88's your going to be at 2473 rpm's so just a wee bit lower than stock.
Having a 2012 with a 6 speed, there would be no way I would run 4.10's with 37'a on my 2 door. I'm currently debating staying with my 33" tires and regearing to 4.56 or possibly going with 4.88's with the thought of going to 35's. I have heard of alot of people running higher gears and saying they are ok about it, but I guess I expect to more than "you can run them" performance from my rig.

That's how I want mine to wind up too. Right now, I am getting around ok with my 4.10s, but I want to get it a little lower than stock to take strain off of the powertrain. ...and get a little more benefit on and off road.
