Canoe on JK - Figured it out.
Don't know if this will be of any help to anyone, but here's my "cheap kayak rack" idea for carrying my 2 Seater Klepper....(~ 100#). My JKU is 15' from front of Rampage bumper to back of JKU, and the Kayak is 16'. So, it fits perfectly as there is virtually - No Overhang !
I just used my tow hitch opening....an elongated arm bracket ...~ 7/8" O.D. threaded iron pipes & insulation. I'm had to create my own (out of necessity) and tried to make it as Simple & Portable, as possible. {KISS, ya know!} You'll see, it's not Fancy, and consists of 3 pieces when taken apart. (Weight? Maybe 10# - not counting hitch).
The "welded hoop" is there to secure a stern line to the vertical rack support when en-route. And, I put a boat cushion where the Kayak/Winshield meet, for "Cushioning Effect", using bow lines tied to my front D-Ring shackles. Cradle is ~ 42" in width. Need 2 Kayaks ? Make the "cradle", wider.
When I originally had this concept, it was for my CJ-5. (I constructed it ~'15 years ago' ). Needless to say, there was a bit of an Overhang, then!! A TeXaS ranger once saw me and said: "OK to have it extend out back..but NO 0verhang out front." Guessed it looked sort of funny to others, while travelling. But hey, it got me to & from the H2O and where only a very few could follow - (Love Jeeps) - as my point of entry was not noted on any map, and GPS had yet to be invented/marketed. Used it for years and will continue to do so on the JKU. Attached Thumbnails

Execellant! I am ready to break out the stick welder again..... another question... How do you like the rear bumper and tire swing... I have been looking all around....
Hey "Thanks K" for the comment! Yup, Go Get the Stick hot-n-ready to Tack!
EZZZY Project if you got the Tools. {Git-R-Done}
My rear bumper/swing tire carrier is just SWEET, and IMO, it's Sharp Looking, too! Equally important to me, was that it was Effortless to install. Loved getting the weight-of-spare off tailgate. Spare is very secure, and with ZERO rattles ...and/or concerns of weight on the back end, now!
Not too sure of "Total Weight" of bumper/swing out frame (i.e, w/out Tire)-maybe 85-90#???); It's very stout & formidable; Its looks are not 'too intimidating', unless the too-close of a driver behind me suddenly realizes he can't stop quick enough.
I certainly have no complaints. I have spoken to the guys @ Body Armor and they're very accommodating and that (more times than not) means - Great Customer Service for the Buyers!
