Hey Mike. Check out RUNIT3's below. Possible Rocky Gap next weekend and Sand Hollow UT 4/24,25. May include some slot canyon hiking and repelling. I'll keep you posted.

In preparation for a professional application of Line-X for the floor, interior sides and interior of the tailgate of my Unlimited, I removed the front passenger seat and rear seat, all the carpeting, plastic floor trim, rubber grommets and center console. I drove to the shop, then removed the front seat to save on costs. I just used a ratchet and a rubber hammer, but an impact tool would be much faster and keep the swearing to a minimum. Even so, the total time was about three hours, but removing the center console took up an hour of that time.
After the Line-X, which I highly recommend, I went all summer and fall with just the Line-X, which was fantastic, expecially after mudding or when it rained: no more damp, smelly carpet. When it got cold, I put the carpeting back in with the floor mats and the noise reduction was an added benefit. In a few weeks, the carpet will be removed again.
In the rear cargo area, I still use the carpet cover, (not ideal) but I have a rubber mat that fits the cargo area so it is not so ugly. I'll probably get the Tuffy cover, I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

How is just the linex compared to just the carpet noise-wise? That's my biggest concern.

It's a slight bit quieter with the just the Line-X than with just the carpet, but two things: one, when you remove the carpet, you will find that on the floor of the footwells on the driver and rear passenger seats as well as in the cargo area, there is some caulk-like material that is either a heat retardent or sound dampening. Some people who have put down Line-X and wanted a "clean" look, have removed this, but I kept it and Line-X' over it and I don't think it looks bad. Personal preference. The other thing, is that 90% of the time when I don't have the carpet in, I don't have the doors on, or have the soft top windows removed, so there is more noise from that. But, with the Line-X, carpet, and hardtop, it is definitely quieter than just with the carpet. I hope that answers your question.
