Default Catch can anyone?

I am new to the jeep/ truck world. I was wondering if anyone is running a catch can setup and if so did they fabricate it or buy one made for the jeeps. Second is it even worth running one or is it another worthless mod

I have read some threads dealing with this. Some people have installed home-made catch cans. Haven't read much feedback from them, though.

I had to look it up.

"An oil catch can is used in turbo applications, or high-performance race applications where excessive blow-by (leakage past the piston rings) of air and fuel vapor occurs. This creates a positive pressure in the crankcase. Engine manufactures have placed a valve on the engine block which releases this pressure. This valve is known as a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. During engine operation, blow-by gases, as well as oil mist from the rotating components of the engine, pass through the PCV valve and are routed back into the intake for the engine to burn off. However, some of the oil mist and other products settle along the engine intake and over time form a "gunk." The oil catch can collects the oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors while allowing "cleaner" gases to be passed back into the intake. Typically the blow-by gasses are passed through a wire mesh, which give the vapor droplets something to adhere to. Since the oil catch cans condense the vapor portion of the gasses, they will need to be drained periodically of all the oil, fuel and other contaminants."

The engine has a hard time burning off oil that gets mixed in with the intake air (oil collects inside the manifold) and it creates knock or pinging. The hemi guys use these.

OP pull of your TB and shine a flashlight in there, if you have oil pooling just clean it out really well with a rag.
Also Diablosport sells them on there website you may be able to make it work if you have to have one.

Does anyone think its worth trying in theory it seems like a good idea but I also could be wasting time and money.

Here is a link to what I think ronjenx is referring to. Ultimately you have to be the one who feels its worth the time and money. If your looking at it as preventive maintenance then is there any wasted time. And just my 2 cents if your looking at it as a performance standpoint, save your money for gears or a supercharger. If I was to go the latter I think I would be more interested in the catch can somewhere down the line.
