Thumbs up Ceramic Beads for Tire Balancing

I've been using Innovative Balancing's (innovativebalancing.com) ceramic beads in my 33" Toyos for a few weeks now (8oz per tire for a 10 ply 33" tire), and I gotta say, they do what they claim to do. The beads were a real pain to put into the tire though. I went through the valve (instead of the pouch method), and it took about 10-15 mins per tire. Eventually I worked out a system - instead of pouring slowly through the tube, I pushed the bottle into the tube and just squeezed the bottle in & out. It sucked air out of the tire and then pushed in the beads, sucked air, pushed beads, etc. It worked a little faster/easier than pouring slowly.

You seem to have mis-understood my message -- the beads are used INSTEAD of lead weights for tire balancing. Most people are not aware of this alternative, so I thought I'd post my experience with 'em -- my _positive_ experience. :-)

I have read about those before and have heard of people using bb's and even golf balls in larger tires to balance the weight. I think the trucking industry started using this method to balance tires first. Not sure on that though.

You have to replace the valve stems by special 'filtered' stems (sold seperately). I've been playing with the tire pressure (going lower and lower), but haven't aired down yet.

Wheee!!! I feel like a mod!

Anyway, I recently replaced my lead clip weights with tape weights for aesthetics. I had considered the beads, but there was a not so positive experience on the other thread. Glad it is working for you, it sounds like an interesting alternative.

Don't worry, the lobotomy scars will heal up in a few weeks.

In the meantime, i dont have these in my Jeep, but i do run them in the tires on my dirtbike, they work excellent at speed, but do nothing up to about 20~30ish mph. (not that it matters much, i rarely ride in that speed range anyhow)
