Noticed on a set of gears purchased that there were a couple small chips on the rear pinion just on the edge. I smoothed them out and seem to look fine now. Do you think they will be safe to install?

The chips were just on the high side that did not meet with the ring gear. Smoothed out just a little with medium grit as recommended by Randy's R & P. The ring gear looks perfect. I just may be in need of a set of 4.10's for the rear now if I do not use these? Let me know what you guys think.

hmm - i'm no expert but my my thought is if it chipped maybe the material may be defective and weakened. IMO, I would ask for replacement gears - or ask who will cover if they fail and cause other damage?

If it's not in the contact patch, no problem. If it is and not installed, I would get them replaced.
