Clanking
So I went rock crawling and had a few problems but one is a clank that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side rear. I went under there and tightened everything but everything was already tight. Any other ideas I should check or do. It seams like I hear it when I start off from a start or down shift kinda hard. So basically when it compresses to the rear or to the front. Thinking
Hmm... I'm not too sure to be honest with you. But just to clarify, it's not a drivesaft clank is it? I know when I accelerate at first, my driveshaft makes a slight "clank" sound and then goes away; however, my driveshaft and pinion angle are a-okay so I know nothing is wrong.
Not driveshaft clank because I thought that too. No I put in neutral and went around a corner with a bump/slope and made the clank. Sounds like a control arm but isn't. Don't know
Again, unfortunately I'm not super mechanically inclined; however, I do do my own installs with my buddies as I hate the dealership so let's see from my own experience and problems circulating through the forum if I can help out until someone more experienced finally chimes in....
Possible culprits:
1) Check your rear coils to see if they are off set at all or bowed and making contact with the rear trackbar.
2) Check the rear trackbar to make sure the bolts are torqued to spec
3) Check to see if either of your shocks are leaking. They'll sound more like a "click" though then a "clank." Look underneath while a friend rocks the jeep back and forth; side to side. In fact, do that regardless. Have a friend rock the Jeep back and forth and side to side to simulate any sort of rocking movement. If you hear the "clank" while they are doing that then look for the location of the "clank."
4) Check the bolts on your rear control arms to ensure that they are nice and tight. If they are adjustable control arms then make sure the jam nut is tight.
I'm trying to think what else may be a possible cause. Hmm...

Not to repeat what others have said...but, I had a couple of similar issues and noises.
1) The jam nut on my track bar had loosened and I didnt realize it till I was noticing a sway and "clank" in the ass end. Jam nut loosened and in turn striped out the inner of the track bar leaving about 2" of play. I had to have a buddy push side to side while I was under it to figure it out.
2) I was also having a loud "pop/clank" at random times in the rear from my track bar making contact with my rear pass spring. This only started after I added longer adj control arms. Still havent fixed that as I'm deployed.
Hopefully this helps you to find the issue...
