Default Clearance Question

Okay so while I'm waiting for my Jeep to get here I've been looking at lifts for it. What I couldn't find through the search is what's the clearance difference between a 2" lift with 33's vs. 3" lift with 35's? Anyone???

Way too many variables to answer that one.

Lets say you have 31" tires stock...in theory the 2" lift with 33's will give you an aditional 3" and the 3" lift and 35's would gain you an aditional 5....but don't place any bets....

Tires vary a 1/2 or more from one brand to another.....and then you have lifts....some are right on (spacer lifts) some will give you 2x more than advertized depending on what you have on your Jeep (ie..bumpers, winch, hardtop, soft top etc)....

So....my answer is....I can't answer

X2 on what he said.

My 2" lift is actually 3 1/4. Your 2" lift may be 2", or could be up around 4". You'd be better off mentioning a specific lift and finding out what you might expect your actual lift height to be with the gear you currently have on it...

It's a stock X w/ tow package and I'd be looking to go towards a Rusty's 2" coil kit w/ 33's that I'm not sure about yet vs. the Teraflex 3" w/ 35's.

As the others have said it depends on the wheels/tires you got with the original JEEP. However the 1st option you mentioned would be 2 1/2" over a 32" tire, the 2nd option would be 4 1/2" over a 32" tire.

If you have read anything here about it before asking your question you would know that the actual lift varies from different manufacturers, ie: some 2" are an actual 3". It also is different between a 2&4dr. As to tire sizes go by actual diameters then take the difference between one tire and another and cut the difference in 1/2 to get the lift difference.

If I were you I'd get my Jeep in my hands before I'd worry about lifts.

Well, to give you an idea, I have a 2dr X soft top and added a Rusty's 2" coil lift. It gave me just a hair under 3".......put on the 33's and got another 1.5" as my stock tires were 30"s.....now I'm going 35's

If I understand the mechanics correctly the only thing that affects ground clearance is the tire size. The lowest point on the Jeep's bottom will be the differentials and shocks-arms attachment points, of witch the differential is probably more important. When you increase the tire size you lift the differential by 1/2 of the tire diameter increase. I have 29" tires and going to 33" - it gives me 4" difference - or extra 2" of ground clearance. The lift kit lifts the body by the stated amount - increasing you body height in addition to the "tire lift" so when I get 2.5" lift the bottom of my body will be higher by 2.5" given by the lift kit + 2" from the tires by a grand total of 5.5" but those 5.5" are mostly helping when straddling obstacles like rocks and logs, my pure ground clearance is still only 2" bigger than before. I leave out the discussion about effect of the suspension/body lifts on the articulation and vehicle's ability to clear much bigger obstacles - ground clearance is still the ability to "clear" or ride over obstacles between the wheels on flat surface.

P.S. Guys I am not trying to start a flame war here

Are we talking about ground clearance? I thought he was asking about tire clearance in the wheel well. My bad...
