What does a throttle body do? Are they necessary with an intake?
I see lots of guys have body spacers, do they add horse power?
A throttle body is the part on the motor that the air tube connects to on the engine side. Basically, the bigger it is the more air you can get into the motor. Attached is a pic comparing the stock throttle body and to an upgraded one from a Viper that fits JK Jeeps. I have both the Volant CAI and Viper throttle body and they are a great combo and fit perfect togeather but you do not need to do both.

The spacers are waste of money and the upgraded Throttle body is only $130 bucks and actually works.

My hood leach has worked out well for me (Volant CAI / Snorkel).

I dropped a K&N filter in the stock box. I've always liked the design of the S&B due to the cone filter in a mostly closed box. At this point I'm holding out for the new Rugged Ridge snorkel/cai that's being designed. Check out the thread.

Stupid question... Do you have to remove the snorkel to open the hood with the volant?

Nope, it flexes (see the rubber tube) before antenna:

See how it keeps the mud / watter away from intake:

That's pretty sweet. I didn't think that would flex enough. Added to my short list now!

X2... After seeing the sketches for the new RR snorkel, i'm holding off on buying any intake related product, until that comes out!

My solution to getting a CAI was to take a trip to autozone. After discussing their Spectre filters with a buddy of mine who works their, Spectre seems to be an off brnad K&N filter. So since i was interested in trying this, i picked up a Spectre filter and their long bent stainless tube. I attached the tube goign to the valve cover and the airflow sensor, but i have to wrap the sensor in tape to make it a tight fit.

Immediately i noticed a different sounding mini van engine. It had some balls to it! And in actuality, the $60 bucks i spent on doing this gave me a better sounding engine and a little bit better mileage. I do not have a splash guard or anythiung around it currently, but i will throw on the stock air system before i go wheeling. I am thinking about doing the "home brew" cold air mod and making my own guard for the filter.
