That about sums it up...

I installed the Airaid CAI on my 07 and it definitely improved the power. I am driving up highway hills one gear higher than with the OEM intake.
I also installed one on my wife's 08 Sahara. I did not say anything to her about it. She asked me a week later what I had done to her Jeep to make it have more pickup and go. (that was a blind test.)
For $200 each, they were pricey, but they eliminate the need to buy filters and they do filter our desert dust better than paper filters. OEM air filters do NOT catch all the desert dust. Airaid filters do a much better job at protecting the engine out here

Airaid advertises 12 hp increase on the JK
K&N advertises 10 or 11

Those sound like pretty substantial increases and the cost per hp increased is fairly cheap.

Just my 0.02 on the snorkel... I have an AEV and didn't notice any gains whatsoever... I have a different sound that I like, but other than that I got it for its functionallity as a snorkel..

Go with the AFE drop in and the snorkel, better flow,, the way I see it, the faster I go the more air that is forced in the air ram, therefore, the bottleneck is eliminated at higher speeds.(Or when you are facing into the wind

Here's my Volant with a water repellent pre-filter. I like it.
