Cold Air Intake Kit?
Unless it's relocating the intake outside of the engine bay, has a large heat shield, or replaces the stock box with something similar than it's really not a cold air intake and is not bringing in any more "cold" air then the stock unit. It's just a short ram intake sucking in hot engine bay air and potentially more exposed to dirt and water. You'd be better off running a snorkel.
Performance wise I think it's just snake oil. It'll sound louder since it's got an exposed filter but gains would be minimal if any at all. Definitely not enough to notice. And I'd be leery about reflashing with an OTS map with any tuner. Those maps are so generic that results will vary from jeep to jeep. You'd see real gains from getting a custom tuned map but that's a huge waste on a jeep IMO.

Are you saying intakes are snake oil in general?
Better not say that to the ZO6 guys who are getting 50+ DYNO PROVEN horsepower from their intakes (Not that I would ever compare a anemic 3.6 to a blown 6.2 liter V8). I've dyno'd several of my previous corvettes and say 20+ rwhp and more torque on all of them. Again, can't compare them to a small V6 but to say you won't see a slight increase in power and torque on a 3.6 is incorrect (Look at the mid range Ripp picks up on their dyno sheets). The question for some is it worth spending $300 to gain 9-15 HP. For me it is (I have a banks on the way) since every little bit helps on this tiny motor, for some it may not be.

According to Ripps website it says 6hp gain.... 6! Hardly seems worth $300+ to me. Now if the jeep had an LS and could get 50whp, like you said, then I'd be all over it.
I was saying "CAIs" are snake oil as they are falsely advertised most of the time. Most are actually SRIs that are bringing in hot engine bay air or the same air that the stock box does. They're essentially the same thing as the stock box but with a high flow filter and less restrictive elbow. I'd like to see them post intake temps vs the stock box after being on the trail all day. In reality it's not bringing in air that's any colder then the stock box does. It's just that the filter used is less restrictive to allowing air to pass through it and less restricted to accessing said air thus potentially allowing dirt and water to get into the engine easier. You can get that with a $40 AEM drop in filter.

Did you read the Dyno graph? There was quite a bit of mid-range torque gained, the 6hp was at peak, clearly explained in their video. I'll take torque gained in low to mid range over peak horsepower everyday of the week.

Sorry, I'm just not buying into it. And again, looking at the RIPP design, where's it getting its "cold" air? But you should dyno that beast once you get your banks intake on. Curious why you didn't go with the RIPP?
i bought the volant set up. I like that it has the options of using a K&N type filter or you can use a donaldson HD diesel filter. The diesel filter has much better capacity and flow rates all while maintaning or having better filtering effiency then the stock filter.
