Control arm skids - bolt or weld
I've been looking into getting some skids for the control arm mounts. There seem to be a few options out there - I like the look of the Evo weld on parts and I could get those put on easily enough at the same time I take the JK to the welder for the C gussets.
Was just wondering though whether it might be equally good or better to fit bolt on skids - it seems that the bolt on skids (from several manufacturers) end up adding more protective metal around the mount and also would be easier to remove and replace if they got really beat up over time.
What are you all doing to protect the control arm mounts?
Steve

Can we get some product pics? And is this only a front control arm part? i found out yesterday i tweaked my lower, drivers side, rear control arm mount to hell. I beat a little sense back into it, but I had to motivate it a good 2-3" which can't be too great for the steel.
Thanks
Thanks

ORE - thanks for posting those pics of your skids.
I think the shock mounts on our JK being so low is due to factory design and geometry of the rear suspension. I'm also not a fan of how low they hang below the axle. I've bashed mine a number of times.
I noticed that ORE's front control arm skid lack a hole for the zerk fitting. My zerk fittings are on top so I guess I would have to drill a hole or drop the arm to grease it if I went this route.
I like having the option of bolt on versus welded. If the bolt on design is done right its just as strong as a weld. The EVO Rear RockStar Skids are bolt on and seem strong enough or at least equal to the welded version.
Skid Row Offroad offer front bolt on lower control arm skids made out of 1/4 inch plate steel. I already bought the Skid Row front control arm skids. Kilby Enterprises also offer bolt on rear shock skids.
I'm trying to make my mind up on the rear shock skids. I like the bolt on approach so that means its either the EVO Rear RockStar Skids (shock mount metal trimming required) or Kilby JK Shock skids. The EVO Rear RockStar Skids help with ground clearance, but one may have to change the rear shocks and rear track bar links.

Thanks for all of the responses. I'll start collecting the pieces together for a trip to the welder.
List looks like
1. weld on front control bracket skids (Evo)
2. weld on rockstar rear brackets (Evo)
3. weld on C gussets (Evo)
4. weld on track bar stabilizer (front and rear) JKS probably
That's all I can think of - there's not anything obvious that I should have welded on at the same time is there?
Thanks,
Steve
