Which Control Arms Do I Need?
I know you guys see a lot about the AEV 3.5 kit (or so it seems)
When I order the kit I want to order adj. control arms as well to replace the use of the cam bolts...
my question is... what control arms do I need?
do I need all 8? or just 4 lowers or 4 uppers or what???

alright I gotchya
i have another question for you...
doing a lot of shopping around for a lift kit and now I'm starting to find other stuff, just trying to find a kit that is rather complete I guess...
what are all the parts I will need for the kit?
I know shocks, coils, control arms (so i dont' need all 8?) but what else will I def. need?

I have the AEV 3.5 premium kit with just adjustable front LCAs and that is all that is required.
However, given Clayton's current sale on parts, I may not be able to resist adding another pair or two, since I can tell that in future I will probably get the 37" bug.
You didn't mention it one way or another , but if you can afford it get the premium kit.
If I had to make a choice, I would get the premium and live with the cam bolts until I could get the arms.

i planned on the premium kit,
I was attracted to it at first because it was a very organized product very "complete" i guess so to speak. but now I'm finding other stuff that I like, I just need to know every part i'm going to need so that way i can take it into consideration when I order my lift kit so I can order what i need with it to if it doesnt come with it

What size tires do you want to run?
What kind of driving and wheeling will you do?
Do you have a 2 dr or 4 dr?
Do you have in your budget funds allocated for regearing, a Superchips Flashpaq, chromoly axle shafts, lockers (if not a Rubi), and/or axle reinforcements (i.e. Off Road Evolutions C2 weld on gussets)?

It's for a 2 door,
I plan to not re gear, well not immediately at least, It's a manual rubi, and I've driven a auto x with stock gears and 35's and it ran fine, So I'm not worried about that till later on down the road when I wanna run 37's

And as far as the flashpaq, i'm getting the pro cal instead. (considering one of the kit's i'm considering is the AEV kit)
so with this info, any way someone can give me a list of everything I'll need for the lift? This will help greatly b/c I'll know what kits will have everything I need and what kits I need to buy stuff for.
thanks guys
I definitely appreciate the advice, and I love your jeep.
I don't have one yet, I've been hunting for the right rubicon for a while. Trying to find something used like an 07 with low mileage, looking at a couple now.
I know you'll prob. think I'm crazy, I'm just trying to go ahead and plan out my build. it's a learning experience for me, and it's really fun.
So if I find a kit with shocks, and coils, and bump stops, with brake line brackets, all I need to find is either a kit with the control arms or some adjustable ones, and a trackbar?
Would you mind expanding on the trackbar?

hahaha been down this road already, 4 times.
long story's but the main one was we had a 2 door rubi, 4" superlift, 35" procomps, regeared, this thing had everything, we had it in the driveway for 2 days after we got it shipped from ATL, and then we get to the dealer to buy it, they hand us our downpayment back and so we go home. we talk on the phone when they called back, we worked out a deal, we were suppose to go pick it up that morning. he called back and said his general manager broke the deal. they sold it to someone else.
Very very sad.
and I've looked at 3 other modded out jeeps to. None of them go right. I'm fine with a stock rubi for a while, it'll get me where I wanna go. But I will deff. be building it along the ways.
I've decided to just find something that has everything I want stock and clean and build it myself. I'll have more appreciation in it and I can build it EXACLTY how I want to.
But trust me, the original plan was looking for something built. But I'm to picky, I'd rather build it myself anywayss

If you are considering alternatives to the AEV kit look at the Full Traction family of kits starting with the Premium 3" and 4" kits. Their Ultimate kits are very complete.
I also like the Clayton kits and it's hard to beat the Teraflex kits for value.
So many choices, so little time.

I ordered a set of LCA's from Rock Krawler direct yesterday to add to the 4.5 AEV lift. They are offering great deals!!!!!! Check out the Vendor section for it. PM them and they will answer you immediately. I called them to order and they immediately transferred me to a tech guy who answered 10 questions in rapid succession. They were very friendly and asked o call back with any help or technical assistance when they arrive. They are solid arms, not DOM tubing and do not require grease. They need WD40 oil for their joints.
to the OP, AEV's kit is NOT complete.... Especially the 3.5"... the rear coils get unseated at full droop, the shocks are too long..
this is my setup..
AEV 3.5" Premium, ~$1700 shipped
Currie Front lower control arms ~$300
Teraflex 1/2" rear spacers (tightened up rear coils, they touch the spacers at full droop.) ~$85
Tom Woods front 1310 DS (and it still hits the skid at full droop, I trimmed the skid and added washers, it works now), AEV says to remove it and leave it off
$450
add it up, $2,535.....
would I do it again, Absolutely!!!!
I have a forklift.. obviously I can test everything for issues before I hit the trails.. I lifted the JK at the rear from the bumper until the wheels were off the ground, and what do you know, the passenger coil literally leaned over out from where it was supposed to be.
I bought the 1/2" teraflex spacers and was able to remove both coils from the Jeep with no tools.. just lifted the jeep from the bumper again, and lifted the coils off the perch. To me that is a HUGE issue. AEV doesnt think so... I think they are crazy but whatever.... Aside from that hiccup and the front LCA's its a nice kit and the JK rides really nice.
