i used to work with some guys that were into the tuner cars and they told me you can get a stand alone computer for just about any motor. gets complicated in a hurry but sounds interesting as you have more control and it can be tuned for your elevation to get perfect fuel to air ratio's. depending on motor size you can acheive 20-80hp

Here is an Open Source ECU tool. .romraider.com/RomRaider/Download"]http://www.romraider.com/RomRaider/Download[/URL] I don't know if it will work for our JK's. Beyond my current knowledge.

The problem with a total replacement ECU, is that the JK's ECU handles EVERYTHING in the Jeep, even the radio will not work without authorization from the ECU. Head lights, foglights, wipers, signals, A/C, lockers, etc. all require the ECU to function.
Most of the standalone ECUs are made to handle engine functions only. I'm not sure how they would handle the electronic throttle either.
By the time you had a complete ECU programmed to handle all of the non-engine functions, you could have bought a hemi.

Your engine control module is very intwined with the rest of the vehicle electronics. This is no 90's honda that you can just up and mess with..Multiple bus systems will have your head spinning with "no gain" in most people's opinions.
