Agreed . I like the MBRP roof rack but it does not work with the soft top that I run half the year.

As has already been said the hardtop is not designed to carry any weight. The JK rack designs have 2 specific design features 1/ all weight supported off the roof. 2/ Ease of removing the and running with softtop down or off. The FJ rack could be mounted through the hardtop onto the rollbar but there will be that possible leak issue.

So far the best rack and sturdiest I have seen so far is in Europe. Very substantial tubing, well built and designed almost strong enough to provide roll over protection. I will try and find the link. Other then that I do like the MBRP rack.

I really like MBPR's new rack. Here are a few pics, if you haven't seen them in the sponsor forum yet.

I wouldn't recommend mounting to the top of the hardtop w/o attaching the load bearing somewhere lower. I think you'd have issues with something that only attaches in 4-6 points.

Man that is nice, I have a great offer for them, I'll buy that rack, and they throw the Jeep in for free. I'll drive it around everywhere for free advertising Think they will go fer it

Oh, and to keep it on topic, it seems that they are compromising the hardtop as well, just on the sides. Since it seems that installing one of these involves not really wanting to take the top off, what about desiging yours to have supports on the inside on the roll cage, you would still have to penetrate the top but there should be a way to seal it

I think you don't understand the concept. The side mounts are supported internally and the front light bar/A pillar support is an separate piece that can remain when the top and rack is removed. This is one of my favorites, so far, and I only hope I can afford it when it is released.
