BNJK, how do u like that tru trak up front, I figured on the d30 you would be less likely to break the rnp compared to a locker and gain some considerable traction.

Does the tt give u any trouble on the street in a dd role. As far as the gears, I lost alot of performance, went with a e rated tire for some more strength, it also pulled my mpg's to a consistent 12 from 18, gonna try to get a little back.

Would love to hunt canada, u got mulies up there that look like small horses, would love to hunt moose also. Well one of these days.

Thanks everyone for the reponses.

Love the truetrac up front, provides definately more traction in 4wd, absolutely invisible on the road. It isnt a locker, but it has definately assisted me in many a situation. The E rated 33s Im running right now destroyed my power as well while I was running 3.21s which is why I went through the trouble of learning to do my own gears and uprgraded to 4.10s with my manual transmission.
This is primarily my daily driver.
The mulies are nice, but I want me an elk this coming season.

And to 2EMES, beefing up the 30 is not like running a 44. Keep in mind the Ring and Pinion are definately smaller with respect to the 44s and there could be a concern with greater incidence of failure when running taller gears because the pinion head on a 5.13 is pretty small. Dana30 and Dana44, two different axles.

BNJK it sure does sound like im heading down the same road as you as far as mods go. Love this forum u can always find someone that can validate a good idea or steer u away from a bad one. Especially since we all seem to use our jeeps in different ways, requiring different mods.

Sounds like i should set up like u and maybe get c gussets when i re gear. I only live couple hrs from ore maybe i can catch there gear deal i think it includes gussets.

Another question, have u ever come across a situation where u needed or thought about 35s, heck i might just stay with 33'. Get some good bumpers a winch and call it a good thing.

WOL, I've read from others here on the forum to NOT go with chromolly axle shafts because doing so will put the weak spot at the ring & pinion (smaller on d30 compared to d44) which would be a more costly repair than shafts if it breaks. Can you share your thoughts on this?

like who and was their recommendation based on experience - things they have witnessed?

what i can tell you is this, i have seen and replaced my fair share of broken front axle shafts whether they be dana 30's or 44's. most had failed at the u-joint as is to be expected. if you're running 5.13's in your front dana 30, yes, there is a chance that it will be your weak link if you are running chromoly shafts BUT, i have not personally seen this to be the case. i'm not saying that it can't or won't happen - just that i haven't seen or even heard of it yet. one of the benefits of getting chromoly shafts is that they have beefed up yokes which help prevent them from stretching out. also, most use use circle clips as opposed to c clips and that helps to prevent your u-joints from coming apart and causing a failure on the trail. having said that, chromoly shaft or not, you are still more likely to blow out your u-joint than a front ring and pinion and that's why i'm not fond of CV joints as they are way stronger and are most likely not to fail.
