I'm running 35s on my stock dana 30. How careful should I be when I go off roading this weekend?

 

You'll most likely get all kinds of opinions. It really depends on what you're doing and how hard you go. Personally I always take the line I know I won't break anything on but that's just me.

 

37s, 4.88s, and locked F/R.

 

it will explode if you even think of running over a rock with it killing everyone in the area.

 

I have an Eaton E locker with 4.56 on my D30. I can tell you I'm not light on it. But honestly I try not to use the front locker unless I absolutely need it. The reason is It's a bitch to steer since I don't have a PSC system yet. I just hate the handeling of a locked front. I'm sure it's tons better if you have hydro steer though. I use my rear E locker all the time when wheeling you really don't know it's there. Unless your doing a 6 point turn trying to Turn around. Then you just unlock it.

 

I have $276 into my hydro including a steering box rebuild from west Texas Offroad. Drilled and tapped the box, made all the tabs myself and had it all done in an afternoon/evening. Got it done around 10:30 pm and by 12 I was on the road 3 hours away to beat on the jeep all weekend and drove home Sunday. Isn't that big of a deal honestly.

 

Man if I had a dollar for every time I heard the D30 is weak and will explode I would be running an LS on tons and 40's.

I ran my D30 with an Aussie Locker, 5.13 gears, 35's mounted on beadlocks and an Artec full armor truss for over a year and the only issue I had was two blown stock axle shafts. What you need to keep in minds is what your weakest link is. If you lock the front and install Chromoly shafts and aftermarket drive shaft you ring and pinion become the weakest link.

Not knowing you or your driving style or where you wheel the only advise is easy on the skinny pedal and carry spare stock axle shafts.

Also, just remember that you don't need your front axle spinning to make it home. Worst comes to worst, simply pull the axleshafts and drive
Home.

 

As long as you don't beat on it stupidly you'll be fine.

I've run 35s, 36s, and 37s on a stock D 30 with zero problem, and this includes 4 Moab trips. My avatar is my old 08 sitting on 36" Iroks on The Escalator.

As long as you drive smart you'll be good to go but you also need to realize it's not designed to handle that stress and won't hold up over time. Start saving for either a replacement or work on strengthening yours up.
