death wobble....
Yep, I ain't shippin, but the first one who gets here wins a BBQ and beer and if ya need too stay the night, that too, I gotta big house.
well i hate to bring this up again, but i cant get rid of my death wobble, first of all im running a 2.5" pro comp comfort ride suspension and i added a daystar 3/4" space on top of each coil for a total of 3 1/4" lift, well ive had the lift on for a year without any problems at all, im using 34" super swamper ltbs, which have always had a not to great ride, but they are tolerable. well one day as im driving off road in our ranch, i hit a big bump and after that the jeep started driving funny, when i got home i noticed that the steering stabilizer was all busted cause it was leaking, so i decided to put the original stabilizer back on meanwhile i ordered another pro comp one. but then i started to experience death wobble, very bad shaking and loss of control. so i went and had my tired balanced and the jeep aligned and still no change, it keeps getting death wobble when i hit a bump at any speed over 25mph. i have checked my jks front track bar and all seems fine, nothing is loose, all the ball joints look good too, as long as im going under 25, the jeep runs fine, but as soon as i hit a bump it goes wacky, so i switched out my 34" swampers and i put on some stock rims and tires in the front and took it out for a spin, it runs perfect, no death wobble, no matter what bumps i hit or what speed i go, so here comes my question, i checked the alignment with a measuring tape and i see the the jeep is toe in about 3/4" , meaning is more closed up in the front that in the back, should i adjust this OUT? could this possible be causing my death wobble? any help would be greatly appreciated
A few comments on the new information you provided:
It is very unlikely that the faulty SS is the cause of the DW, it is probably more of a victim. Before it failed it was probably just damping the oscillations enough so that it was less noticeable.
Unless the larger tires were out of balance or out of round they are not the cause of the DW either, but they will make it worse due to their larger mass.
Make sure you double check the Swampers for balance and then rotate them front to back to see if there is an improvement.
Somes the DW just happens at higher speed with smaller mass wheels.
You may have a partially deteriorated joint or bushing that can still function with the stock tire load, but fails with the Swampers.
You are talking about doing your own alignment. Have you had a good suspension or offroad shop look at your Jeep?
Finally if you a chance, go through the DW Check List put together by another forum member:
