Does anyone have the detroit true trac and have any exprience with these.
i'm lookin into one of these for around $600 new for the rear of my jk and im told they have fully automatic limited slip and performs like an open diff until it is needed. i originally wanted an OX cable actuated locker but was told not to based on the physical location of the lever is not jk friendly and the cable itself constantly needs to be re-adjusted..... and going ARB is too expensive for me!

The Rep was quite helpful and very knowledgeable, and refreshingly patient while answering my questions.
In email conversation with the Tech Rep from Eaton (Detroit), I learned the following things about Detroit-Eaton’s FRONT LSD products.
My initial query elcited this answer:
Thank you for the interest in Eaton differentials. We do offer the
Truetrac for Dana 30 front axles. However, the part number depends on
the gear ratio you are using.
The part number would be (Non-Rubicon applications) 912A585.
Just remember, no synthetic oils or additives.
The Tech Rep and I then exchanged several emails, he answering my questions. I trimmed the fat and gristle out of the emails between us and posted the pertinent passages below:
Q: No synthetics??? Why not? I would think that synthetic oil would protect the gear pockets? Not even Amsoil or Royal Purple?
A: No synthetics of any kind. It can reduce the torque biasing capabilities within the Truetrac. This will make it less effective.
Q: How often will regular gear oil need to be changed in the housing?
A: Gear oil change depends on usage. If hardcore use every 10 to 15k, other than that, 35k. Only applies when front axle is locked in.

Also of great help was Nate over at Sadler PowerTrain. They ascertained for me this:
Thank you for your inquiry
I just spoke with an Eaton Tech and they are familiar with the different holes sizes on the dana 30 and dana 44, for the Rubicon.
What size are your bolts you have now ? , are they 3/8” or 7/16” or another size ?
If they are smaller than the holes size on the TrueTrac , and they have told me this before, that it is perfectly fine to use the TrueTrac with the slightly larger hole with the smaller bolts; use thread locker, and make sure to torque them to specs . I know it probably seems a bit strange but that is what they recommend , if your bolt size is larger then you will need to drill the holes out to size
Either way the unit will work.
I have the brand new Detroit truetrac in stock for the dana 30 3.73 and numerically higher ratio
They are Part # 912A585
Please let me know if I can help. I have them in stock at my location here ready to go
Thank you very much and have a great day

Kenny from River Raider has done a JK up with an OX Locker and sells a custom mount for it. It looks awesome. It is expensive like an ARB, and you can run it with either a cable, air, or electrical based actuator. Kenny told me his has worked perfectly and the mount looks really good. The little shifter to the side is the OX, the others are for an Atlas transfer case. The guys at OX are pretty helpful and will answer any questions you have of them. Lots of the older reviews that stated problems had to do with the older shifter design which is different now. It used to keep pre-load on the cable to feel "positively engaged", but that stretched the cable leading to adjustment issues. One perk with a cable over air is that you can manually tweak the cable system to lock it up. A perk with the air system is a broken line (assuming you left some slack) can be fixed with a knife and a quick connect. Electrical would be similar is usage to the Rubicon's system and have the same kind of plusses and negatives, but a used Rubi axle might be cheaper.
With some of the problems I saw even just this weekend with guys fighting with old and new ARB systems I'll never put one in my rig. I'd use a detroit or Aussie locker before an ARB. True-tracs sometimes require you to use the gas and brake at the same time to get them to engage so they can be trickier with an automatic, and they can slip (and you'll know it by the horrible sound....) But for what you get, which is normally a good functioning locker they are WAY cheaper than a selectable.

I just installed and ran the true track in our 4 dr JK for EJS and it performed flawlessly, I would not hesitate to use this product again.

With JK's BLD computer applying the brake pressure to any slipping wheel automatically, would this not make the True-Tracs less tricky than previous Wranglers?

In theory yes. I have one installed up front, had it out over the rocks once already...its kinda hard for me to say whether it was the truetrac up front or the auburn locker in the rear that helped me the most...either way, I got over the rocks

Of the two people that have posted on this thread that have actually used a True Trac; it sure sounds like they work without any extra effort on the brake pedal. Something close to a Detroit or Aussie without the bad behavior of a full time locker on ice and less costly than and ARB or and OX. The question I have left is how strong is a True Trac compared to an ARB or an OX?
