Default differences in tire measurements?

Is there any difference in say a 34 or 35 x 12.50 inch tire and the same tire that is described as 315/75? I know they will not measure up exactly the same. Usually the 315 is classified as LT meaning light truck. But if you look at prices 35x12.50 are more expensive... So what gives here?

Pretty sweet calculator, but what I was asking is there any difference in the actual tire besides size? Does LT mean its inferior in quality because prices seem to reflect that? Is this more just something like inches and metric?

Yeah I typed 315 mm tire and it brought up a lot of stuff on it.. I guess its just mm as to inches. 315's work out to around 34.6, but 35's aren't exactly 35inches either... It really sounds like a trade off really... Guess I will find something I like for the best price.. Don't really care about a half inch or so...
