Is there an intake upgrade I can look to that doesn't involve a snorkle, which will be safe with dust, mud and water? I'm not talking about submerging it just "splash" friendly.

All I'm finding are snorkels and intakes which are open like the K&N but those don't look safe around water especially when splashing around.

 

Just buy an after market drop in filter.
