Driver's Side Rattle/Clunk and squirrely steering
Hello All,
First time poster and first time jeep owner!
I just bought an '08 2Door Rescue Green Rubicon. I am running 305's with Spidertrax spacers on Pro Comp rims. I believe it has a 2.5" lift on it. (Couldn't tell you from where because I bought it used from a dealer who doesn't know for sure either.)
I do have a Rough Country dual steering stabilizer on it but I'm not sure if the rest of the lift is the same or not. Could this be banging against the tie rod on bumps?
I have been experiencing some noises with the driver's side front end and squirrely steering.
I took it to the dealership and they replaced all of the shocks with Skyjacker Nitros all the way around and realigned.
The handling seems better but it still didn't solve the driver's side rattle/clunk problem....
I took it back and they then replaced the tie rod and the drag link...and the problem remains. Lazy or stupid? Either way, they were of no help to me.
I have checked all of the bolts and tightened them to spec with a torque wrench.
I took the front wheels off and checked for play in the wheel thinking that maybe it was a ball joint or axle u-joint but there is no play at all, it is solid.
I did notice that the drivers side coil spring has a lot of flex in it. (Possible sagging?)
Could this be the culprit?
Possibly banging up against the metal coil spring seat?
I recently changed out the stock front sway bar end links with the Rough Country quick disconnects because whoever put the lift on did not change these out and it had the front sway bar pulled downward.
Also how much play is supposed to be in the steering wheel?
I can turn the wheel left and right probably an inch before it starts to turn.
One more thing, the track bar has not been replaced and I was thinking maybe I should replace the coils and the track bar to an adjustable one?
As you can read, I need some help! LOL
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I love the Jeep by the way! I just want to make sure I can get everything where it's supposed to be on her.
Thanks again!

you might check out this thread..... not sure if it is the same thing you are talking about or not, but there are quite a few threads about it

You might make sure the RC stabilizer has not rotated down
I had this happen, the center bracket was hittig the tie rod
this caused a clunk and funky steering, basicly did not want to return to center on it's own

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I am going to check out the steering box and all of the components.
The RC stabilizer is still sitting on top and nothing has rotated as far as I can tell.
I am thinking that some of this noise is coming from the front coil springs banging against the coil seat. Would spring retainers solve this?
I was also thinking of purchasing a new lift for it anyway.
I am leaning on either the Skyjacker 2.5" or the Rock Krawler 2.5" stock mod lift that comes with the new track bar.
Also, Is the Skyjacker dual steering stabilizer any better/different than RC's version?
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks for all of the help!
